Thanks to an anonymous $245,000 donation, End 68 Hours of Hunger can now provide even more food to children facing food insecurity. Per the donor’s request, the overall organization and each program will receive $5,000, enough for over 650 additional bags filled with food at each program. End 68 Hours of Hunger has 48 programs in seven states, serving about 5,500 children nationwide each week. The majority of these programs are in NH, but End 68 also has programs in California, Florida, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts and Ohio.
“This donation was a wonderful surprise and the perfect way to start off a new school year. Our goal is to end food insecurity so all children can come to school ready to learn and chase their dreams. This donation helps us move toward this goal,” said Kate Roman, executive director of End 68 Hours of Hunger.
Food Insecurity is a growing, with one in five children nationwide being food insecure in 2024 according to the USDA. These children live in households that lack the resources to provide regular, healthy meals, leaving children with a fear of hunger that affects their mental and physical well-being. End 68 Hours of Hunger fights food insecurity one bag of food at a time by providing food for children over the weekend when school is out. Our purchasing power is multiplied through generous food donations. Every $10 donated allows us to provide a bag worth approximately $30 worth of food to children. Each bag contains two breakfasts, two lunches, three dinners and a few snacks.
Local programs are entirely volunteer driven, with hundreds of volunteers at programs across the country buy, packing and distribution food to children. In recent years, as food insecurity has increased, End 68 Hours of Hunger has responded by adding more programs and serving more kids. Just in the last year, we added five new programs serving 16 additional schools.
