As we send home our final End 68 Hours of Hunger weekend bags of the school year, we want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible impact our community has made.
Since January 16th, we have sent home more than 900 weekend food bags, providing over 6,300 meals to local students in Amherst and Mont Vernon. Behind every bag is a child who can head into the weekend knowing they will have food to eat, and behind every meal is a community that cares.
This program would not be possible without the generosity and dedication of so many people. Thank you to our donors, volunteers, community partners, local businesses, schools, churches, and supporters who have contributed food, funds, time, and encouragement throughout the year. Every donation collected, every bag packed, every food drive supported, and every dollar given has helped ensure that children in our community have access to nutritious food when school meals are unavailable.
We would like to give a very special thank you to LaBelle Winery who volunteered very early on to be an integral part of our program: distributing our weekend bags. The drivers who pick up our bins and deliver them to all the schools, every week, have been amazing and we value their service so very much. We simply could not run our program smoothly without them.
The success of End 68 Hours of Hunger is truly a community effort. Your continued support allows us to provide hope, stability, and nourishment to students who need it most.
While the school year may be ending, our commitment to feeding local children continues. Throughout the summer, we will provide monthly boxes of non-perishable food to participating families to help bridge the gap when school is out of session. We know that hunger does not take a summer vacation, and with your ongoing support, we can help ensure that students continue to have access to food during the months ahead.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in our mission and helping us make a difference in the lives of local children. We look forward to continuing this important work through our summer food program and welcoming students back for another successful school year in the fall.
Together, we are ending hunger one child, one bag, and one weekend at a time.
