Amherst/Mt Vernon

School is only a few weeks away and we want to remind families that End 68 Hours of Hunger- Amherst & Mont Vernon is here for you because no child should have to worry about having enough food when school is not in session.
During our first six months, we provided more than 900 weekend food bags to students in our district. Over the summer, we saw a 20% increase in the number of children needing support and distributed the equivalent of 1,320 additional bags between June and August.
The reality is that Amherst and Mont Vernon are not immune to food insecurity—but help is available.
Our program is completely free, confidential, and open to any student who needs support. There are no income restrictions or verification requirements. If your child needs food, they will receive it.
Our weekend bags provide 3 dinners, 2 lunches, 2 breakfasts, and snacks to keep kids fed from the time they leave school on Friday to when they return Monday morning.
New for this year: Snack only bags: these bags will consist of just snacks and are meant for families who might not need full meals but still need support. Snacks bags will consist of granola bars, fruit snacks, pudding cups, etc.
Families can only sign up for either weekend bags or snack bags.
To enroll your student, please contact our school liaison, Krystal Gendreau, Director of Nutrition Services at SAU39, at kgendreau@sau39.org.
